Ultimatum to withdraw case against journalists in Lakshmipur

of Lakshmipur The leaders of the Editor-Publisher Council have given an ultimatum to withdraw the harassment case filed against journalists in Raipur within 7 days. They gave this ultimatum at the protest meeting and human chain organized in front of Lakshmipur Press Club on Thursday (November 5) morning at the initiative of Lakshmipur Editor-Publisher Parishad.

Its district representative Saidul Islam Pabel, executive member of press club Nazim Uddin Rana, editor of Dainik Kaler Prabha newspaper Mahmudul Haque, editor of Upkul newspaper. Zahirul Islam, Afzal Hossain Sabuj, Editor of Sabuj Zamin, BM Sagar, Editor of Weekly New Path, Muhammad Momin Ullah, District Representative of Bangladesh Kantha and others.

The speakers said, how the influential people of Raipur have occupied the government canal where the present government is conducting eviction operations against the encroachers. Journalists are being harassed with cases under the Digital Security Act for reporting against these injustices. Therefore, the case filed against journalists in Raipur should be withdrawn within the next 7 days and they strongly condemned and protested the torture and harassment of journalists across the country.

Saiful Islam Jewel, Editor of Dainik Kaler Pardishna newspaper, Kamalur Rahim Samar, Editor of Mukt Bengali newspaper, Abdullah Al Farooq, Executive Editor of Daily Alokit Lakshmipur newspaper, editors and publishers of local newspapers, various print and electronic media journalists working in the district participated in the human chain.

To be noted: Raipur Municipality Mayor and Upazila Awami League General Secretary Md. AKM Mizanur Rahman Mukul, Executive Editor Afroza Akhter Ranga, Raipur Upazila representative of the newspaper Zahirul Islam Titu and resident of Denayatpur village were arrested for publishing news against Ismail Hossain Khokon. A case was filed against SN Uddin Riyad on October 31 under the Digital Security Act.
