District Committee General Secretary Nur Uddin Chowdhury Nayan has postponed the Awami League conference in 8 unions of Kamalnagar Upazila of Lakshmipur. However, District President Golam Faruk Pinku said that the conference has not been postponed. Trinamool Awami League leaders and activists are confused about this. Due to this, the previously announced Saheber Hat Union Awami League conference in the upazila was not held on Saturday (November 7) afternoon.
There have been allegations that the names of BNP-Jamaat infiltrators and those accused in sabotage cases have been included in the Awami League councilor list surrounding the union conference. In addition, 10,100 taka was collected from union president and secretary candidates to collect forms.
Based on these allegations, on Saturday (November 7) morning, Awami League leader Nur Uddin Chowdhury Nayan ordered the president-secretary of the upazila committee to postpone the conferences of 8 unions. In this regard, Nur Uddin Chowdhury Nayan said that the list of councilors has not been prepared yet. There is controversy against some councilors. For this reason, the conferences of the unions were postponed.
However, Awami League leader Golam Faruk Pinku said, "We were asked to take 100 taka from the candidates. But they collected 10,100 taka each." On this allegation, Central Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif called me to stop taking money. However, no instructions were given to postpone the conference. I have asked our district general secretary to hold the next conferences after a couple of days.
Kamalnagar Upazila Awami League General Secretary AKM Nurul Amin Raju said that 10,100 taka was taken from the candidates for the conference stage and food and other incidental expenses. There is no malicious intent in this. In this context, the leaders and activists are confused.
When asked, Kamalnagar Upazila Awami League President AKM Nurul Amin said, "The district committee president said that the conference was not postponed. But the general secretary has instructed us to postpone the conference. For this reason, the previously announced conference of the Saheber Hat Union Awami League of the upazila on Saturday (November 7) afternoon was not held."
Party sources said that the conferences of Saheberhat, Char Lawrence, Char Martin, Char Falkon, Patarirhat, Hazirhat, Charkadira and Torabganj unions have been postponed. Earlier, the Charkalkini Union Awami League conference was held on Friday (December 6).
Incidentally, on November 2, the Awami League committees for 9 wards of Torabganj Union in the upazila were announced. On November 3, the deprived people held a protest march at Hazir Hat and on November 4 at Fazil Bepari Hat, alleging that the committees were given in exchange for money. Meanwhile, a section of the Awami League has become angry after Sultan Ahmed Tipu, an accused in the sabotage case, collected the forms of the Torabganj Union Awami League president candidate.
