Thousands of Rohingyas get flats in India

The flat of Rohingya refugees will be opened in India from Mitanmar to the refugee flats, and there will be round-the-clock police security, and the central government has said this is what the news reporters said.

According to the plan, 1,100 Rohingya refugees will be given government flats and will be provided with a total of 250 flats.

In August 2017, the Myanmar army launched a military operation against the Rohingya, killing thousands of Rohingyas in the operation, which led to the Rohingyas who came to neighboring countries, especially Bangladesh, to escape the genocide.

Originally the shelter is in Kutupalang, Cox's Bazar district of Bangladesh. The number of Rohingyas here is more than 10 lakhs. Among them, 25 thousand Rohingyas have already been rehabilitated in the developed housing project at Hatitar Bhasanchar in Notakhali.

The same number of Rohingyas are also sheltered in India, as one of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), currently 40,000 Rohingyas are living in inhumane lives in several slums around Delhi.

The BJP government of Narendra Modi has long termed these Rohingya refugees as ‘illegal immigrants’ and ‘threats for national security’.

However, their promise of shelter and security is an indication of withdrawing from that position.

On Wednesday (August 17), Housing and City Management Minister of India's central government, Hardeep Singh Puri, said that after a high-level meeting of the Ministry of Home Affairs, a decision has been taken regarding the shelter of the Rohingyas.

The minister said in a tweet that the flats of the Rohingya refugees in Delhi will be opened in India. Ashras are welcomed, a very important decision has been taken.’

The Rohingya refugees will be sent to the economically weaker class in Delhi's Bakkarothala area (EWS), which will be given general amenities and the Delhi Police will be kept for 24 hours security.’

A senior official of the government said that 250 free flats have been built for the financially backward Rohingyas and that flat will be the new address of the Rohingyas.

According to the plan, 1100 Rohingya will be transferred to these flats. The flats will have facilities like fans, three-day meal, landline phone and TV, which was used by the Delhi government for the isolation of the coronavirus pandemic.
