Opposition leader Premadasa wants to win Sri Lanka's presidential post

Sri Lanka's main opposition SJB leader Sajith Premadasa said that if President Gotabata Rajapakse resigns, he will run for the presidency.

The BBC has reported that his party is also conducting talks with Mitra and others to support Sajid for the post of SJB President.

In the face of severe economic crisis, Sri Lanka has started a movement to demand the resignation of the country's current president Gobata since March this year.

The country's foreign exchange reserves have gone out, due to which the government is struggling to import daily items like food, fuel and medicine.

The government of Sri Lanka was sweeping the government of the whole of the whole country for this situation, which was uttered by the gross dissatisfaction on Saturday, with thousands of people ignoring water cannons, bullets and barricades, and then the private residence of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was also set on fire by the protestors.

The president later said he would resign this week, and Speaker Mahinda Etapa Avevardhan has also announced the polling date for the new president on July 20.

Premadasa told the BBC that her party and allies have agreed to ‘nominate her’ when the presidency is vacant.

He had lost the 2019 presidential election, and he had to get the support of the ruling coalition MPs to win.
