Social Welfare Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said, 'To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), people with disabilities will be included in the mainstream of socio-economic activities. To this end, the government is working to determine their accurate statistics. The government is also committed to establishing their rights, including creating a disability-friendly environment.'
He was speaking as the chief guest at a workshop organized by the Neurodevelopmental Disability Protection Trust of the Ministry of Social Welfare at a conference room of a local hotel in Cox's Bazar on Monday. He said this while addressing the workshop held to develop effective tools for identifying and accurately recording people with disabilities.
The workshop, chaired by Md Shah Alam, Managing Director of the Neurodevelopmental Disability Protection Trust, was attended by Md Khairul Alam Sheikh, Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare, and Kazi Nazimul Islam, Director of the Chittagong Division of the Department of Social Welfare.
The three-day workshop is being attended by officials from the Ministry of Social Welfare, NDD experts, doctors, and child neurologists. Various recommendations were made, including compiling accurate statistics based on the abilities of people with disabilities, implementing the Protection of Persons with Disabilities Act, and helping people with disabilities emerge as entrepreneurs.
