Former DG of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs detained, arrested at Patgram border It is a case of mass uprising.
The police have arrested Sabbir Bin Shams (57), the former Director General (DG) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enter the country at Patgram Upazila border in Lalmonirhat. He was arrested from Dahgram area on the border of the upazila on Saturday afternoon.
According to Patgram police station-police sources, Sabbir bin Shams was arrested from Dahgram Angorpota (extinct enclave) of Patgram yesterday afternoon on the charge of trespassing. This summed him with two diplomatic passports (red color) with a total of seven passports, a international driving license, a button and some Bangladeshi money.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station Nazmul Haque said that the incident was done in Patgram Police Station. After the initial interrogation, Sabbir Bin Shams was sent to the custody of the police intelligence branch (DB) yesterday evening.
Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station OC Saad Ahmed said, ‘Last night, Sabbir Bin Shams was in the custody of Sadar Police Station. He was arrested as a accused in the case of the death of a sixth death in the much-discussed fire of Lalmonirhat Sadar police station.’
It is to be noted that the multi-storied residence of Suman Khan, joint secretary of Lalmonirhat district Aomi League, was attacked, vandalized, looted and killed in fire on May 27, 2025. Lalmonirhat Sadar police station was arrested on May 27, 2025. The case was shown to be the son of the traditional Baiki Bais of Lalmonirhat city.
He was in the post of the executive director of the Center for Research and Information (CRI) of the Awami League Research Branch Center for Research and Information (CRI) in 2021. In 2021, he was in the post of contractual foreign ministry for three years.
Later, Sabbir bin Shams was taken to the court of Lalmonirhat. At around three o'clock today, his lawyer Rafiqul Islam said, ‘We have prepared to present arguments by asking for bail.’
