Nine people have been publicly flogged in Kandahar, Afghanistan, for robbery and homosexuality, while four people have reportedly had their hands cut off in public for theft.<\/p>\n

A flogging incident took place at the Ahmed Shahi Stadium in Kandahar on Tuesday (January 17). News - NDTV.<\/p>\n

Afghanistan's Supreme Court said in a statement that nine people had been sentenced for robbery and homosexuality. Afghanistan's Tolo News tweeted the Supreme Court statement.<\/p>\n

Local authorities and Kandahar residents were present at the stadium during the flogging. Haji Zayed, a spokesman for the provincial governor, said the culprits were given between 35 and 39 lashes.<\/p>\n

Shabnam Nasimi, a British-Afghan socio-political activist, said the Taliban reportedly cut off the hands of four people yesterday in front of spectators at a football stadium in Kandahar for allegedly stealing. People are being flogged, amputations and executed without justice and due process in Afghanistan, which is a violation of human rights.<\/p>\n

UN experts have expressed deep concern over the use of public floggings and executions in Afghanistan. In a statement, the UN experts said that since November 18, 2022, Taliban authorities have reportedly flogged more than 100 people in several provinces of Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
