Judiciary now fully independent: Law Minister

Personal Correspondent:

Law Minister Anisul Haque said, 'Khaleda Zia was convicted first in the judicial court and later in the high court for stealing money from orphans. Again he was convicted for embezzling money from Zia Orphanage Trust. There is no question of government revenge here. His bail is also under the court's jurisdiction. There is no question of the government interfering here. Courts were kept in their own pockets during the BNP period. Judiciary is now completely independent. '

He said this while replying to the questions of reporters at the inauguration of the 21st special training course organized for GP (Government Counsel) and PP (Public Prosecutor) at the Judicial Administration Training Institute in the capital on Tuesday. Regarding the amendment of the Land Survey Tribunal Act, the Law Minister said that this Act will be brought up for amendment in the next session of the National Parliament. He said that currently a joint district judge is serving as a judge of the Land Survey Tribunal. If the law is amended, along with the Joint District Judge, Senior Assistant Judges and Assistant Judges will also be able to try these cases. This will increase the rate of settlement of cases.

In the speech of the chief guest, Anisul Haque said, 'In expanding access to justice, GP-PPs have to fulfill their responsibilities with the mindset of service. In all circumstances, the court's case management process should be supported by following the court's instructions. He said, it is often heard that a GP-PP files a time application in the court on various pretexts which is not correct. The Minister urged to comply with all the instructions related to time management of the court for speedy disposal of cases.

Stating that the government has taken several steps to reduce the tangle of cases, the Law Minister said, through the amendment of the Code of Civil Procedure and the Money Debt Court Act, the provision of alternative dispute resolution has been made to facilitate speedy adjudication. GP-PPs should follow the provisions of this Act and advocates should be encouraged in this regard along with litigants. He also said that the government is thinking of modernizing the services of public counsel and public prosecutors by bringing them under a specific law.
