Today is the 112th death anniversary of Mir Musharraf Hossain, one of the pioneers of Bengali literature, the greatest Muslim writer of the 19th and 20th centuries, the author of the timeless novel 'Bishad Sindhu'.
On the occasion of Mir's death anniversary, the local administration organized a wreath-laying, discussion meeting and prayer program at the memorial center on Monday (December 19).
Mir Musharraf Hossain was born on November 13, 1847 in Matulala of Kumarkhali Upazila Lahinipara village of Kushtia district. He died on December 19, 1911 in Padmadi village of Nawabpur union of Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari.
He was buried at Padmadi. To preserve his memory, the Mir Musharraf Hossain Memorial Center was built in Padmadi with the funding of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
Mir Musharraf Hossain has left a brilliant example in the field of literature. He wrote 37 books on stories, novels, plays, poems, autobiographies, essays and religion. Besides writing literature, Mir Musharraf also did journalism for some time.
Among the works of Mir Musharraf Hossain, Ratmavati, Gauri Setu, Basant Kumari, Zamindar Darpan, Sangeet Lahri, Udasin Pathik Maner Khat, Madinar Gaurab and Bishad Sindhu are notable.
Baliakandi Upazila Executive Officer Ambia Sultana said, on the occasion of the 112th death anniversary of poet Mir Musharraf Hossain, wreath laying, milad mahfil and discussion meeting have been organized at his tomb.
