New notes worth Tk 14,000 crore in Eid market

Everyone, young and old, likes to receive new currency notes during Eid. Many people like to give new currency notes during Eid salami, Fitra or charity. Like last year, the corona pandemic is going on during Eid-ul-Fitr this year too. However, Bangladesh Bank has said that this time, new currency notes worth 14 thousand crore taka will be released in the market during Eid. But unlike other times, Bangladesh Bank is not making arrangements to give money to the general public under special arrangements.

Bangladesh Bank is making extensive preparations to supply new money for Eid. Long queues are seen at the counters of various banks, including Bangladesh Bank, for new money. As Eid approaches, long queues also increase at bank counters. At that time, the atmosphere of Eid could be seen whenever you go to the banks. However, due to the coronavirus, Bangladesh Bank has stopped this system this year. Bangladesh Bank has taken the initiative to distribute new money notes through general transactions and ATM booths in banks. Commercial banks are able to collect this money from Bangladesh Bank as per their needs. Bangladesh Bank sources have said that it has already distributed 4,000 crore taka.

On Monday, Bangladesh Bank's Executive Director and Spokesperson Md. Sirajul Islam said that Bangladesh Bank supplies notes to the market throughout the year following the supply-demand principle. However, the demand for new notes is high before Eid. Considering that, new notes worth Tk 14,000 crore are being released to the market on the occasion of Eid.

The new notes include 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 taka. Last year, Bangladesh Bank released new notes worth around 30,000 crore taka on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. It is learnt that the equivalent of 40 to 50,000 crore taka of different denominations of notes is required throughout the year. 70 to 80 percent of this is required during the two Eids.
