Aga Khan Mintu and Abul Hashem Khan, who were elected unopposed in the by-elections to Dhaka-14 and Comilla-5 constituencies, have taken oath as members of parliament.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath to the two in the swearing-in chamber of the parliament on Thursday (July 1) afternoon. Later, they signed the oath book as per the tradition.
The Election Commission announced by-elections when the two seats fell vacant after the deaths of MPs Aslamul Haque from Dhaka-14 and Abdul Matin Khasru from Comilla-5. Since there were no candidates, the returning officers declared them the winners.
Parliamentary Secretary Zafar Ahmed Khan conducted the swearing-in ceremony. Chief Whip of Parliament Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury, Whip Iqbalur Rahim and Whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury were present at the swearing-in ceremony.
