The capital is a big market for yaba and marijuana. The statistics of one day show the real picture. Yesterday, Tuesday, about 40,000 yaba and 16 kg of marijuana were seized in the capital. And a part of this yaba was brought by air in the stomach.
An official from the Narcotics Control Department admitted that the shipment of yaba and marijuana in the capital is increasing every day. He said that the amount of these drugs coming in is several times higher than what is being seized.
He says the reason is that Cox's Bazar is the main route for Yaba. Yaba traders have become active again since the Crossfire has stopped. And the capital has always been a big market for Yaba or marijuana. The number of Yaba and marijuana users is also high here. He also said that the Narcotics Control Department cannot conduct sufficient operations even if it wants to. They have a shortage of manpower and vehicles. To conduct operations, they have to take the help of law enforcement agencies.
Regarding the increase in the shipment of yaba and marijuana in the capital, Manzaharul Islam, Additional Director of the Narcotics Control Department's Dhaka Metro (South) Region, said, "Yaba and marijuana are now being brought to the capital through various routes due to the lifting of the lockdown." In response to another question, he said, "When people have more opportunities for entertainment, the demand for drugs increases. And because of the demand for drugs, drug dealers bring yaba and marijuana in various ways."
Large amount of Yaba in the stomach: Airport Armed Police arrested a man at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport yesterday while he was returning to Dhaka from Cox's Bazar with about 3,000 pieces of Yaba in his stomach.
