Germany beat France 1-0 in the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup to reach the semi-finals. The only goal was scored by Mats Hummels. They later won the World Cup. But four years later, Joachim Low's team was eliminated in the group stage at the next World Cup. After that, star forward Thomas Muller and Hummels were dropped from the team.
