Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that child labor can be eradicated from the country with the joint efforts of all along with the successful implementation of the programs taken by the government. He said this in a message given on the occasion of the World Day for the Prevention of Child Labour.
Sheikh Hasina said, besides the government, I call on all concerned to play a more effective role in preventing child labor and welfare of children, including private individuals and institutions, national and international organizations, development partners, research institutions, civil society and media, employers and labor organizations.
He said, like other countries of the world, I am happy to know that the 'World Child Labor Prevention Day' is being properly celebrated on June 12 in Bangladesh. We are determined to ensure the education, safety and good health of the country's future generations and children.
The Prime Minister said that our government has ratified the UN Charter on Child Rights and the ILO Convention on Hazardous Child Labour. 'National Child Labor Elimination Policy-2010' has been formulated to eliminate child labour.
Sheikh Hasina said that 'Housekeeper Protection and Welfare Policy-2015' has been formulated to ensure the rights and protection of children engaged in domestic work. The Ministry of Labor and Employment is working to increase the capacity of departmental, district and upazila committees to eliminate child labour. A total of eight sectors have been declared child labor free so far.
Sheikh Hasina said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman made child law making and primary education mandatory in 1974. The current Awami League government has formulated the National Child Policy-2011, Children Act-2013, Child Marriage Prevention Act-2017 along with various programs of development and protection.
