650 feet deep trench in Peru, 25 dead

At least 25 people were killed when a passenger bus fell into a ditch in the northern part of South American country Peru. Many others were injured.

At least 25 people have died after a bus plunged off a mountain road into a ditch in northern Peru, according to reports. And more than a dozen people were injured.
 
Local official Olga Bobadilla told RPP radio that the accident happened late Sunday (April 28) on a potholed dirt road in the Andean region of Cajamarca. The bus fell into a ditch about 200 meters (about 650 feet) deep.
Immediately after the accident, 23 people were reported dead, but this information was later updated to 25.
 
Municipal official Jaime Herrera said the bus carrying more than 50 passengers fell by a river. Some of the passengers were washed away.
 
Rescue and firemen rescued the injured from the accident site and sent them to the hospital. Apart from this, Celendin municipality declared 48 hours of mourning after the accident and loss of life.
In 2023, this South American country recorded more than 3,100 deaths in road accidents.
