Police have recovered the body of a private university student from the water under Rampura Bridge in the capital's Hatirjheel area. His body was recovered around 10:30 am on Monday.
The student's name is Faiz Quader Chowdhury (23). Police recovered the body and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College morgue. Later, relatives went to the morgue and identified his body. Police believe he committed suicide.
Hatirjheel Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Mohammad Awlad Hossain told Prothom Alo that Faiz Quader Chowdhury lived with his family in North Shahjahanpur area. He was studying in the first year of a private university. His relatives said that he was mentally ill. Even though he was admitted to the university, he would not go.
Faiz's relatives told reporters at the Dhaka Medical College morgue that Faiz left his house on Sunday night to go to a friend's house. He has been missing since then. Faiz's father, Fazlul Quader Chowdhury, told reporters that his son Faiz became mentally unstable during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although he was admitted to a private university, he did not go to the university. He was undergoing treatment.
