The elections in Bangladesh did not follow the standards of free and fair elections

The United Kingdom has known that the twelfth national parliamentary election of Bangladesh has not been according to the criteria of free and fair elections.

The statement said, ‘Democratic elections depend on acceptable, free and fair competition. Respect for human rights, rule of law and due process is essential in the democratic process. Electoral is not a consistent adherence to these criteria. We are concerned about the arrest of a significant number of leaders and workers of the opposition before the polls. We are concerned about the election and the fear of violence and intimidation during the election campaign. The statement said, ‘There is no place for such activities in politics.’

Not all parties have participated in the elections. That's why the people of Bangladesh did not have enough options to vote for the people,’ the statement said.’

The statement stating that the historical and deep friendly relations of the United Kingdom and Bangladesh are maintained, it has been said that if a sustainable political compromise and a favorable environment is created for the civil society, it will be possible to achieve the growth of the country in the long term.

The United Kingdom has called for the same path of the people to move forward in the interest of the people by removing differences of opinion towards all the political parties in Bangladesh, which has announced the continuation of this process.
