This time, all waste will be removed within 12 hours of the end of the Qurbani, said Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
He made the remarks to reporters after a meeting on the proper management of sacrificial animal markets and raw hides and a meeting of the core committee on law and order on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha on Sunday.
The advisor said, "You know, a lot of skins are wasted every time. We want the sellers to get a fair price for the skins. A fair price for the skins is the right of the poor. The skins are given to various poor people, orphanages, and madrasas. But they do not get a fair price for it. This time, arrangements have been made so that they get a fair price. Then we were trying to see if the profit could be reduced. We sat down with them and discussed it and said, 5 percent profit is too high. Can it be reduced?"
He said, "We have not been able to reduce the yield yet. We may not be there next time, but we are working so that the yield does not exceed 3 percent from next time. This time, 20 markets are being arranged on both sides. Arrangements are being made to ensure that security is in place at these markets. We have arranged for doctors at the cattle markets so that no sick cows can be sold. Besides, many people come to the cattle markets and fall ill; there will be doctors for them too. The people in charge of each market will make arrangements for this. There will be an adequate number of Ansar members at each market."
The advisor said, "The sacrifice will continue for about three days. About 90 percent of the cows are sacrificed on the first day. Then, some sacrifices are made for two days. As a result, very quick measures should be taken in waste management. The administrators have promised us that all the waste will be removed within 12 hours. All preparations have been made for this. I thank the administrators for this."
