The body of teenager Amir Hossain (14) was lying on the green grass of the field. Rice dishes, water jugs and glasses were scattered around. He was returning home after feeding his father Fazlu Mia, who worked in the haor, lunch. Amir was killed by lightning on the way.
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in the field of Baktarpur village in Laxmipur union of Doarabazar upazila of Sunamganj. Amir Hossain also lives in the same village. He was a class 10 student of the local Liakatganj High School and College.
Doarabazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Zahidul Haque said, Amir's father was working in the haor. He had taken rice for his father in the afternoon. He was returning home in the afternoon after feeding his father rice. At that time, there was thunder and lightning. After reaching the field next to the village, he died on the spot due to a sudden lightning strike.
Begum Hasina Momtaz, principal of Liaquatganj High School, said, "We are all shocked to hear the news of his death."
