The US has threatened to stop an important pipeline of Russian gas sending to Western Europe if Russia invades Ukraine.
The pipeline, called Nord Stream Two, will go from Russia to Germany, with government officials in Berlin on Thursday warning the project could be banned if Russia attacks.
Western allies have already said that if Russia attacks Ukraine, it will target the country's economy.
The latest comments on the pipeline indicates their position to be more strict.
Russia has denied planning an attack on Ukraine, but in recent weeks, millions of Russian troops have gathered on the border of Ukraine, there has been increased tensions and fears of attacks.
‘I want to be very clear if I want to be very clear if I am a US State Department spokesman,’ Ned Price told NPR Radio. If Russia invades Ukraine, the Nord Stream to Project will not proceed.’
But Ned Price said, ‘He won't say anything specific about how the project will be stopped. ‘There is a question of whether the US will have the power to really cancel the project.
‘We will work with Germany to ensure that it does not go ahead,’ said US spokesman Price.’
The news of the pipeline came after the US Secretary of State that Ukraine would not be accepted by the NATO alliance, and Moscow had known in writing a few demands including this in the meeting of the Russian-US foreign minister.
The US's rejection of the US's refusals said the country had failed to assess its (rashita) security concerns, but they would keep the door open for negotiations.
