Farmer Zakir Sheikh has succeeded in cultivating new yellow variety 'Madhumala' watermelon in Morelganj.
Farmer Zakir Sheikh of Panchakaran union of the upazila cultivated fish and vegetables along with watermelon on four bigha of land this year. Among the three cultivated varieties of watermelon, the yellow variety 'Madhumala' is one of them.
Farmer Zakir Sheikh said, he got interested in yellow watermelon production after seeing it on YouTube. Watermelon can be produced three times a year and is very tasty.
Upazila (Acting) Agriculture Officer Sifat Al Maruf said, Zakir Sheikh's bumper crop of new varieties of watermelon is encouraging other farmers.
