The investigation into the murder of former Awami League general secretary Zahidul Islam Tipu in the capital's Motijheel police station had been stalled for some days. The investigation into the controversial case was progressing slowly due to the failure to arrest some important accused and the failure to recover weapons and motorcycles. However, the investigation suddenly took a new turn. Three people were arrested on Saturday night.
They are Titu, Robin and Sohel. They have been linked to the Tipu assassination plan. Multiple responsible sources related to the investigation confirmed this information to Samakal. However, none of them agreed to publicly comment on the three arrested. But they confirmed that they were taken into the intelligence net based on information provided by Suman Sikder Musa, the main coordinator of Tipu's assassination.
A senior police officer involved in the investigation said that after Musa was brought back to the country through Interpol, he was interrogated in custody on several occasions. Musa then gave a confessional statement in court. His statement revealed who had what role in the killing mission. The DB also called and interrogated several others at different times to verify Musa's information. Apart from Musa, several others arrested in this case have told during interrogations that Titu, Rabin and Sohel were involved in the Tipu murder plan. Among them, Titu is the most violent. He has long-standing links with the criminal world. He was once close to Jubo League leader Riazul Haque Khan Milky. Milky was killed in front of Shoppers World in Gulshan on July 29, 2013.
The investigation team has confirmed that Masum Mohammad Akash was the shooter in the Tipu murder. The bullets from an arms shop called 'Arms Museum' in Purana Paltan were used in the Tipu murder. Rakibur Rahman Rakib, the leader of Ward No. 10 of Motijheel, took 15 rounds of bullets from the owner of the shop, Imran Hossain Jitu, and delivered them to Sumon Sikder Musa. In addition, Ishtiaq Ahmed Jitu, on the instructions of top terrorist Zisan Ahmed Monti, who is absconding in Dubai, gave the weapon to Molla Shamim. Shamim was riding a motorcycle during the killing mission. He is currently absconding in India. Like Musa, the police headquarters has started various activities to bring him back to the country through Interpol.
Investigation sources say that Tipu was the target of several top terrorists who were absconding abroad due to various disputes including tenders and extortion centered in Motijheel and Shahjahanpur. Two top terrorists, Jisan Ahmed Monty and Zafar Ahmed Manik alias Freedom Manik, played the main role in this. The plan of this murder was to put an end to Tipu's dominance and keep Motijheel and Shahjahanpur under their 'occupation'. So far, 16 people have been arrested in this murder case and remanded and questioned in phases. However, the police have not yet been able to seize the weapons and motorcycles used in the murder.
Tipu and college student Samia Afnan Preeti, a rickshaw puller, were killed when a microbus carrying them opened fire on them under the Khilgaon flyover on their way home from Motijheel AGB Colony at around 10:15 pm on March 24. Tipu's wife Dolly filed a case against unknown persons at Shahjahanpur police station the next morning in this incident.
