Finally, a murder case has been filed against former SP Babul in Mitu's murder. On Wednesday (May 12), Mitu's father Mosharof Hossain filed the case at Chittagong's Panchlaish police station as the plaintiff. In the case, former SP Babul and 8 others were accused.
Babul Akhtar is the main accused in the case. Apart from this, 7 other accused are Kamrul Islam Shikder alias Musa, Ehtashemul Bhola, Wasim alias Motalib, Anwar Hossain, Khairul Islam, Saidul Islam alias Sakku and Shahjahan Mia. Among them, Kamrul Islam and Khairul Islam are absconding.
Meanwhile, according to special sources, investigating officer Santosh Kumar Chakma is staying in the Chittagong Metropolitan Court with the final report of the case given by former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akhtar in Mitu's murder.
Five years ago in Chittagong, husband former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akhtar was the plaintiff in the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu. In the investigation, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) found involvement in the murder against him.
PBI Chief Deputy Inspector General Banaj Kumar Majumdar held a press conference on Wednesday (May 12) at 11:45 am at PBI's head office in Dhanmondi. He said Babul Akhtar's involvement with Mitu's murder was found. He will be arrested only if there is a new case. Deputy Inspector General Banaj Kumar Majumder also said that Babul Akhtar will be arrested today and the police will give the final report of the previous case.
Earlier on Tuesday (May 11), Babul Akhtar was taken into custody by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
On June 5, 2016 at 7:17 in the morning at GEC intersection in Chittagong city, three miscreants on a motorcycle surrounded Mitu and shot her first while she was going to drop her son in the school bus. After that, the miscreants fled after ensuring death by hacking. At that time Mitu's husband Babul Akhtar was promoted to the post of Superintendent of Police and joined the police headquarters and was staying in Dhaka. Before that he was in charge of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong City Intelligence Police. After the murder, Babul Akhtar filed a murder case against unknown persons in Panchlaish police station of the city. The case was transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in May last year after the case was under investigation by Chittagong city detective police for 3 years and 11 months. The investigating officer of the case is Inspector Santosh Kumar Chakma. The investigating officer said that since Babul Akhtar is the plaintiff in the case. He has been detained. The remand application showing his arrest will be sent to the court on Wednesday.
