As the use of technology increases worldwide, human traffickers are also taking advantage of it. As criminals use technology to traffic people, it is becoming difficult to identify them in many cases. In order to combat the trafficking ring, coordinated action is needed both online and offline. These were the words of the eminent person at the National Consultation Meeting on Prevention of Human Trafficking organized on Saturday.
The consultation meeting titled 'Combating Human Trafficking in the Context of Technology Use and Its Abuse' was jointly organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Bangladesh UN Network on Migration.
The speakers said that the increase in unemployment due to the global economic crisis has increased the risk of human trafficking. Criminals are using technology to intensify their activities. They are using various tools on digital platforms to attract, exploit and control people. However, technology also offers many possibilities in the fight against trafficking. Raising awareness on the safe use of the Internet and social media will reduce the risk of trafficking. The innovation and expertise of the private sector can be used to develop sustainable technology-based solutions to prevent trafficking.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that human trafficking is a serious human rights violation. The government's policy in this regard is zero tolerance. The government is taking active steps in this regard. The fight against trafficking requires the involvement of all parties. He said that the government will continue to work to raise awareness.
