Directorate of Consumers in monitoring stocks of edible oil refineries

From March 1, edible oil is supposed to be sold at 163 taka after a reduction of 10 taka per litre, but it is not being sold at that price. Therefore, a consumer rights team has been sent to monitor oil production and storage in seven refineries including Rupganj, Keraniganj, Chittagong. Director General of Consumer Rights Protection Directorate A. H. M Safikuzzaman informed this information. Chairman of Debate for Democracy Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran presided over the event.

A. H. M Safikuzzaman said that the decision to reduce prices is not easily implemented. But the decision to increase the price is quickly implemented. Although the duty and tax of four products have recently been reduced, its impact is not noticeable in the market. According to him, consumer syndicate is now needed to protect consumer rights. If the price increases unreasonably, the price will come down if the consumers join together to reduce the purchase of a product. A recent example of this was beef.

He said consumer rights have been undermined in the Bailey Road tragedy. Before a customer goes to a restaurant, it is not possible for him to know whether the establishment complies with the building code; Whether there are proper fire fighting system and other safety measures including emergency exit stairs.
Debaters of State University of Bangladesh defeated the debaters of Southeast University in the shadow parliament organized on the importance of using technology to protect consumer rights. Chairman of Debate for Democracy Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran said in the president's speech, consumers are suffering because they cannot buy products at a fair price due to the vicious cycle. Consumers are wondering if the prices of products will remain affordable during Ramadan. Another reason for the increase in the price of goods is the level of extortion from goods transport vehicles. Meanwhile, the price of fuel oil has increased yet again, which will further increase the price of daily necessities, including the increase in transport fares.
