Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the government is developing the communication system across the country because an improved communication system accelerates industrialization and helps in increasing trade and commerce.
He said, "We are reviving rail connectivity and laying new railway lines and constructing bridges, as well as dredging rivers. Improved connectivity accelerates industrialization and helps in increasing trade and business."
The Prime Minister made the remarks on Monday morning at a ceremony to present financial donations to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund by various financial institutions to help those affected by the recent floods.
Various banks and financial institutions handed over donation checks to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund. Principal Secretary Ahmed Kaikaus received the donation on behalf of the Prime Minister.
Noting that her government has built a communication network by building bridges and improved road systems throughout Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said, "Along with all this, we have also activated waterways by dredging rivers. Our previous BNP-Jamaat coalition government had almost shut down the railway communication system. We are reviving it and are also building new railway lines. As a result, the country's communication system is also growing."
He said, "We are creating great opportunities to further accelerate trade and commerce through the development of communication systems and industrialization."
Referring to the success of the dream of building the Padma Bridge with her own funds, the Prime Minister said, "When the World Bank stopped funding the Padma Bridge at the instigation of a person from our country, and other development partners also withdrew, I announced that I would build the Padma Bridge with my own funds. At that time, along with the people of the country, many of you also stood by me and announced all kinds of cooperation. For that, I thank you."
Referring to the people of the country as her 'greatest strength', Sheikh Hasina said, "With their courage and cooperation and their support, we were able to build this Padma Bridge with our own money."
"Our vast southern region, which was neglected for a long time, has now been given the opportunity for industrialization. The people of this region will prosper financially. There will also be a market for your manufactured goods. The purchasing power of the people will increase and the fate of the people of the 21 districts of this region will change."
After the first government came to power, his government built the Bangabandhu Multipurpose Bridge over the Jamuna River, which also provided electricity, rail and gas connections. The Padma Bridge has also been built in the same way, multipurpose. He said that there will also be gas, electricity, rail connections along with state-of-the-art WiFi facilities there.
On Monday, 45 banks and financial institutions donated a total of Tk 304.41 crore to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
