The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has finalized the schedule for the next three seasons of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
BCB will release the tender for the franchise rights for 2023-2025 within a week.
Board President Nazmul Hasan Papon said this after the meeting of the Board of Directors of BCB on Sunday (July 17).
BCB has also fixed the BPL dates for the next three years. BPL 2023 will start on January 5. It will end on February 16.
The 2024 season will begin on January 6. The curtain of this show will come down on February 17.
The season of BPL will start on January 1, 2025. The event will end on February 11.
Nazmul Hasan Papon said that he wants to hold a BPL seven-team tournament next year and the number of teams will be increased if there is an opportunity.
Due to the Covid-19 situation, the BPL for the last two years has not played itself out. BPL was held in 2020-2021 with only local players. On the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, BCB sold the franchise rights for only one year this year.
Today Papon said, 'It was decided in the meeting that BPL will be held for the next three years. Because, we will give the franchise team for three years. This means teams will have to buy rights for the next three years, 2023-2025. Now that the date has been fixed, the rest will be decided within a week.'
He also said, 'Giving the team for a long time gives the franchisees time to fix their own plans. Considering that everything will be as before, not even that. Some changes may come. We will advertise everything clearly. The terms and conditions will be decided in a few days.'
The regular franchises of BPL over the last few years are Dhaka Dynamites, Rangpur Raiders, Khulna Tigers and Comilla Victorians. But while Comilla played the Victorians last year, others did not.
Nazmul Hasan Papon believes the old franchises will come back and make the BPL strong again.
