The Bangladesh Coast Guard has detained 13 Indian fishermen along with a fishing trawler while they were illegally fishing in Bangladeshi waters. They were apprehended at around 12:30 pm on Sunday (August 8).
It is learnt that Bangladesh Coast Guard ship Sonar Bangla, while patrolling in the sea, spotted a foreign trawler illegally fishing in Bangladeshi waters. Sensing its presence, the trawler tried to escape, but the Coast Guard patrol ship chased them and apprehended them 15.4 nautical miles southwest of the Mongla Fairway Buoy in Bangladeshi waters.
The process of handing over the seized trawler and the 13 detained Indian fishermen to Mongla Police Station for legal action is underway.
