Since former Netherlands star footballer and coach Ronald Koeman took over as Barcelona coach in the middle of last season, Spanish club Barcelona has been reaching out to Dutch footballers one after another. Dutch midfielder Gini Wijnaldum was on that list. However, before Barca could finalize the contract, French club PSG snatched him away with a higher salary offer.
Koeman has been looking for another Dutch player from the start. He is Memphis Depay. Barcelona were unable to sign him last season due to financial difficulties. However, they will not have to spend money on him this time. He is joining the Catalan club on a free transfer this season.
The forward's contract with French club Olympique Lyonnais expires this season, meaning the Catalans can sign him for free.
Barcelona has not yet officially announced anything. However, coach Ronald Koeman said in a media interview that the contract with him is confirmed. Although the contract has not been signed yet, it will be done soon.
