Today is World Menstrual Day. Deepika Padukone has given an awareness message on the occasion of the day. The Indian actress is currently in France to serve as a judge at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. However, she did not forget to give a special message on the occasion of the day. She shared a video message to create awareness about menstruation and break taboos. In the video message titled 'Period Story', she talks about her experience of learning about menstruation in school.
Deepika said, "I was in school then. My best friend Divya and I sat together and learned about menstruation. Our mothers gave us a good idea about periods. They explained what menstruation is? Why does it happen?"
The actress also shared in the video message how this open conversation about periods has been helpful, saying, "I am so grateful to my mother. Because she spoke so naturally, with compassion and patience. It was a memorable experience growing up. I hope girls around the world have the same experience about menstruation."
Deepika has always been vocal about not only menstruation, but also various social and political issues. She regularly talks about mental health. Deepika has now entered the spotlight as a judge in the main competition section of the festival. Apart from this, the actress has been seen walking the red carpet several times since the festival started.
Deepika's latest film 'Gehraiyaa' was released directly on OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. Deepika's performance as Tara was widely praised by critics.
Deepika is scheduled to return to India after the Cannes Film Festival and resume shooting. Deepika currently has seven films in her kitty, including Bollywood, Hollywood and South India. At least three of them are scheduled to release this year.
