59 BGB personnel have arrested 3 people with 150 kg of processed turtle bones from the Bholahat border in Chapainawabganj district. The turtle bones were recovered in a raid in Kumirjan village of Bholahat upazila of the district yesterday. The estimated value of the bones is around 1.5 crore taka.
This information was given at a press briefing at the force's office on Saturday (July 3) afternoon. The BGB said that a team led by Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Md. Amir Hossain Molla conducted a drive from 10 am to 1 am on Saturday and recovered 150 kg of turtle bones. At that time, the owner of the house, Md. Rafiqul Islam, son of the deceased Etaj Uddin of Kumirjan village, was arrested. According to the information given by him, his assistant in carrying the goods, Md. Al Amin (22) son of Azim Uddin of Chamucha village, and Md. Monirul Islam (20) son of Mofiz Uddin of the same village, were arrested. However, the BGB could not arrest the main accused, Idul (22) son of Babul Hossain of Chamucha village.
The 59th BGB commander told the media at the time, "For the first time in the district, a large quantity of turtle bones have been seized while smuggling across the border. This is a novel smuggled product. We have not received information about smuggling of such products at any border in the district before. These turtle bones from India are mainly used in pharmaceutical factories."
He also said that in the current Corona situation, patrolling has been strengthened at the border to prevent Indian smugglers from crossing the border and entering Bangladesh, and special operations are being conducted from the battalion headquarters. At that time, Assistant Director Md. Hafizur Rahman and various officers and members of the battalion were present.
