Highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country, 163 deaths

In the last 24 hours, 163 more people have died from the coronavirus, the second highest number of deaths in a single day in the country. This brings the death toll in the country to 15,392. Bangladesh has seen more than 100 deaths from coronavirus in the last 10 days. The highest number of deaths in the country was 164 on July 5.

This information was given in a notification signed by Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services, Professor Dr. Nasima Sultana, on Tuesday (July 6). The notification said that in the last 24 hours, a record 11,525 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus, taking the number of infected people in the country to 966,406.

Although samples of 38,039 people were collected in the last 24 hours, 36,631 samples have been tested. Where the detection rate is 31.46 percent. The total detection rate so far is 14.22 percent. 5,433 new people have recovered in a day. With this, the number of recovered patients is 8,44,515.

An age-based analysis shows that out of the 163 people who died, 91 were over 60. In addition, there are 29 people between the ages of 51 and 60, 27 between the ages of 41 and 50, 11 between the ages of 31 and 40, and five between the ages of 21 and 30.

 

Among those who died in the past 24 hours, 98 were men and 65 were women. Of these, except 5, the rest died at home in hospitals. According to division-wise statistics, out of 163 people, the highest number of deaths was 46 in Khulna division, 45 in Dhaka, 24 in Rajshahi, 11 in Rangpur, 24 in Chittagong, five in Mymensingh, two in Sylhet, and six in Barisal.

The first three cases of coronavirus were detected in the country on March 8 last year. Ten days later, on March 18, the first person infected with the virus died in the country.
