Locals have recovered the body of a Rohingya terrorist and handed him over to the police after a shootout at the Tumbru border in Ghumdhum, Bandarban.
The shooting took place in no-man's land near the Konarpara camp on the Myanmar-Bangladesh border and beyond the barbed wire fence on the Myanmar border early Wednesday (January 18).
It is learnt that the deceased was seen wearing the clothes of a Rohingya terrorist group called RSO. In addition, two others, including a 12-year-old child, are undergoing treatment at the Kutupalong MSF Hospital with gunshot wounds.
Jahangir Aziz, chairman of the local Ghumdhum Union, said that gunfire could be heard in the No Man's Land area in the morning. However, it is not certain who fired the shots. He said that it is believed that the shooting incident took place between two Rohingya terrorist groups, as the deceased was wearing the clothes of a Rohingya terrorist group called RSO.
Sheikh Mohammad Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ukhia Police Station in Cox's Bazar, said that three people who were shot were rescued in the afternoon and admitted to MSF Hospital in Ukhia. One of them died. The body of the deceased Rohingya has been sent to the morgue of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. The remaining two are undergoing treatment.
He further said that the injured Rohingyas were brought from Naiksyangchhari in Bandarban. He also said that efforts are underway to find out the details of what happened there.
