France begins Euro mission with victory over Germany

France got off to a flying start at the European Championship by beating favourites Germany in a thrilling match. The world champions eventually won 1-0 in a match full of attacks and counterattacks. However, France had little to contribute to the goal. The Germans lost to an own goal by Mats Hummels, who returned to the national team after two years.

Germany beat France 1-0 in the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup to reach the semi-finals. The only goal was scored by Mats Hummels. They later won the World Cup. But four years later, Joachim Low's team was eliminated in the group stage at the next World Cup. After that, star forward Thomas Muller and Hummels were dropped from the team. Both have been returned to the team this time. But Hummels became a villain right away.

He could not make the moment of his return to the national team more colorful. He sent the ball into his own net while trying to clear the danger. Bayern Munich's French defender Lucas Hernandez received the ball on the left from Paul Pogba's pass. When he passed the ball to Kylian Mbappe, it bounced on the ground. At that moment, the 32-year-old German center back sent the ball into his own net while trying to send it out of the field.
France took the lead with an own goal in the 20th minute of the match, but were unable to double the score. Both teams kept the opposing defense awake with counterattacks. The Germans tried hard but failed to score.
