A school student riding a motorcycle was killed and two others were injured when a tractor hit him in Birol Upazila of Dinajpur. The accident occurred at around 9:30 am on Wednesday in Uttar Bahla village of Bijora Union of the upazila.
The deceased, Mohana Akhter (14), is the daughter of Mizanur Rahman of Laxmijal area of Bijora Union. She was a student of class 8 of Raghupur High School. Mohana's uncle, motorcycle driver Habibur Rahman (45), and Mohana's girlfriend, Ritu Akhter (14), daughter of Ariful Islam of the same village, are undergoing treatment at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital after being seriously injured in the incident.
According to police and local sources, this morning, Mohana Akhter was going to school with her friend Ritu Akhter on her uncle Habibur Rahman's motorcycle. At that time, a brick-laden tractor coming from the opposite direction in the North Bahla area near the school hit the motorcycle. Mohana fell from the motorcycle and died on the spot. Local residents rescued the two victims and took them to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
Biral Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdus Chabur said further legal action will be taken after discussing with the family of the deceased schoolgirl. The tractor has been seized. However, the driver and assistant are absconding.
