3 people sentenced to death for killing A.League leader Mannan in Lakshmipur

In Lakshmipur Awami League leader Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan murder case, the court has ordered three people to be hanged and five people to be sentenced to life imprisonment.

A fine of Tk 10,000 has also been ordered for each. Thursday (February 6) at around 11:30 a.m. District and Sessions Judge Court. Shahenur gave this verdict. District Judge Court Advocate (PP) Md. Jasim Uddin confirmed the verdict of the case.

He said, 'The killing of Awami League leader Mannan is a brutal incident. During the verdict, the accused Kofil Uddin was present in the court. The rest of the accused are absconding.' However, AKM Humayun Kabir, the lawyer for the accused, claims that the accused are being harassed in the case on purpose. The court did not prove that the accused were involved in the murder.

He also said that he will appeal against this verdict in the high court. Abdur Rahman and Mohd. Joynal. Those sentenced to life are Md. Zulfikar, Khorshed Alam, Yasin Arafat Rafi, Md. Muktar and Md. Shahjalal.

According to a court source, the deceased Abdul Mannan was the president of Charshahi Union Awami League of Bhuiyan Sadar Upazila. On the night of May 21, 2014, Mannan was called from his house and killed by slitting his throat. His body was found lying near the house at night. Four days later, Anjum Ara Begum, wife of the deceased, filed a murder case against the unknown accused at the Sadar police station. On June 2, 2015, the District Detective (DB) police investigated and filed a charge sheet against 8 people in the court. PP said, after long testimony and hearing, it was proved in the court that the accused are involved in the murder.
