Clashes in Rabi: Tear shells-rubber bullets fired by police

In front of Binodpur Gate of Rajshahi University (Rabi), students clashed with locals over the incident of beating a student. The clash started around 5:30 pm on Saturday. Clash continued at 10:30 pm. University authorities said that more than two hundred students were injured in the clash.

Meanwhile, the police fired tear-shell-rubber bullets around 10:30 pm to control the situation. Due to this, the number of injured students has increased. Newly 10 more people have been brought to University Medical. 4/5 people are being taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in three ambulances.

Sheikh Yusuf Bappi, a recently graduating batch student of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, said in his Facebook status, 'The police told me, we are with you. I am going to the medical school in the university bus, covered in blood by that police shot. Thank you very much Rajshahi University.'

After the clashes started, the number of injured students at the University Medical Center continued to rise. Several of them are said to be in serious condition. Many people's heads have been broken by brick-bats. Journalists were also injured. The injured students were not immediately identified.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Sultan Ul Islam claimed that the number of students injured in the conflict is more than two hundred. Arrangements are being made to take them to the hospital.
