Cyclone Yas is located in northwest Bay of Bengal, 170 km from Digha Beach in East Midnipur, West Bengal, India. At the same time it moved 120 km east and southeast of Paradwip in Odisha and 180 km south and southeast of Baleshwar.
This was reported in a bulletin issued by the Kolkata office of the India Meteorological Department at around three o'clock on Tuesday night. The bulletin said that it could reach the land as early as Wednesday morning.
A million people were evacuated to safer places in the states of Odisha and West Bengal alone before this strongest cyclone hit in the pandemic. As a precautionary measure, train-flight services have also been suspended.
Although the direction of the cyclone is not towards Bangladesh, as Khulna coast is under its influence, precautionary measures have been taken, about 15 thousand shelters have been kept ready.
